Engine Oil Upgrade for Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 Pickup with EcoDiesel
KLONDIKE Lubricants Corporation owns a Ram 1500 Pickup truck with the 3.0L EcoDiesel power plant. This truck has served us well over the past year, being reliable, efficient, and cost effective.
However, one thing that has proved challenging is accessing the engine oil that was originally specified for this 3.0L diesel engine. This engine was factory filled with SAE 5W-30 full synthetic engine oil meeting OEM MS-11106 (MS = material standard). A number of oil marketers offer fluids meeting MS-11106, however, these fluids were comparatively high priced and often hard to access.
In the summer of 2016 this has changed!
From 5W-30 CJ-4 Full Synthetic to 5W-40 CJ-4 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil
In August 2016, Fiat Chrysler published service bulletin 18-087-16 REV. A. The subject of the bulletin is “Engine Oil Viscosity Upgrade and Flash Enhancements”. In this service bulletin, Fiat Chrysler states that the recommended engine oil for the EcoDiesel engine in Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and Ram 1500 Pickup truck be changed from SAE 5W-30 CJ-4 full synthetic heavy duty engine oil to SAE 5W-40 CJ-4 full synthetic heavy duty engine oil meeting MS-10902.
While this bulletin outlines changes relating to the 2016 model year, the change in the recommended fluid type would apply to the previous model years where this engine is utilized.
KLONDIKE Heavy Duty Engine Oils Meeting Specification MS-10902
KLONDIKE Lubricants Corporation is pleased to confirm that KLONDIKE SAE 15W-40 CJ-4 Heavy Duty Engine Oil and KLONDIKE SAE 5W-40 CJ-4 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil both meet the MS-10902 specification. FCA has stated that their preference for the EcoDiesel is for full synthetic engine oil; therefore KLONDIKE is recommending that the SAE 5W-40 CJ-4 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil be used in Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and Ram 1500 Pickup truck with 3.0L EcoDiesel engine.
